Course Outline

Chapter 1: Introduction
This chapter provides students with a sound familiarity of Bill of Material in Microsoft Business Solutions—Axapta. Also they are given a firm grasp on the importance of the Bill of Material and what it is, as well as a better understanding as to what the concept and purpose of BOM version, BOM levels, and different line types along with their uses.

Chapter 2: Create a Bill of Materials
The purpose of this chapter is to show how to create a simple BOM and then add to it from two different ways. Students also learn to navigate in and around the BOM Designer.

Chapter 3: BOM Configuration
This chapter gives students an understanding of configurations and what they enable – the two options that can be used when a BOM is available in different variations. Students learn to work with configurable BOMs, understand the purpose, use, and type of configurations involved with BOMs, and work with setups.

Chapter 4: BOM Versions
This chapter teaches that a BOM version is the link or reference between an item and the BOM, and expands on that notion giving students a better understanding of the concept and purpose of BOM versions. Students also gain a further understanding of BOMs with greater details as to how to approve and activate BOMs, apply expiry dates, work with Sub-BOMs, and use the "Where-used" button.


Chapter 5: BOM Calculations
This chapter focuses on how to make proper calculations and what they determine within the system. Students learn to use Cost groups and profit settings, view cost prices, and calculate a BOM with Trade agreements.

Chapter 6: Sales Orders and BOMs
The purpose of this chapter is to teach how to calculate prices and then update the sales price of the BOM according to its configuration. Students will also learn about these calculations with regard to the configuration rules and routes. Also covered will be how to display and select individual BOM lines in a sales order.

Chapter 7: Scrap and Measurement
The first part of this chapter foescus on scrap. Students are provided with an explanation as to what scrap is and why it is important to a company. The lesson describes how to calculate scrap, the different kinds of scrap and how the two kinds should be handled. The focal point of the second part of the chapter is BOM measurements. The content of the chapter discusses how such measurements are made, why they are in existence, and what they are used for.

Chapter 8: Reporting a BOM as Finished
This chapter gives a close look at how to report a BOM as finished as well as what the action actually entails. Students gain an understanding as to what the purpose of reporting a BOM as finished is along with what comprises a finished BOM.

Chapter 9: Reports and Other Functionality
This chapter introduces the reporting features within the Bill of Material module as well as other functionality such as Copy, Sort, and Checking.
